ReplyDeleteI am interested in your research because, at our school, we do not really have special tutorials for Special Education students. These students do have teacher aids that help them in the regular education classrooms (inclusion), but in most cases are not put into our tutorial groups. I am interested to know if you find that tutorials will increase student performance for Special Education students.
I am also focusing on students with special needs in my action research project. My campus is currently considering eliminating resource classes and supplementing their inclusion instruction with a learning lab. In a way, this would be a year long tutorial setting which also served as a foundation builder. Tutorials can be very effective, but there must be a plan for instruction rather than allowing students to select their own materials and the plan must be individualized for each student. Computer programs that can provide individualized assignments and growth data are very beneficial if used in this way.
ReplyDeleteAwesome research topic. I can't wait to read about your findings. We have a teacher in my department that just does not think we should spend out tutorials/pull-out time with special education students. She always wants to take them off the list because she doesn't believe that it will be beneficial to them, but to me the opposite makes more sense. It will be great to see some research either way.
